Faith Habits That Keep Us Focused on God

Did you know that consistency is a trait that describes our God?

The word consistency is said of something that is harmonious, constant, and does not contradict itself. Through the example of Jesus, we learn that we can be consistent in our habits of faith, such as prayer and Bible reading. These practices allow us to stay focused on God.
Let's take a closer look at what these habits are and how we can practice them to be consistent in our relationship with God.
Faith Habits That Keep Us Focused on God
Prayer
Prayer is the opportunity given to us by God, through Jesus, to communicate with Him. The Bible teaches us that we can talk to God in different ways. Some examples are:
Singing praises of gratitude to Him, as Mary did in Luke 1:46-55
Praying God’s Word verbatim, such as Psalm 23
Asking for His wisdom when we are in need
Writing God a letter asking for His forgiveness
Interceding for our family, friends, and other people we know and meet
Likewise, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul invites us to "pray continually." This will help us to:
Keep our thoughts on God and the things that please Him, far from the distractions and temptations of everyday life, as we are taught in Philippians 4:8.
Learn to distinguish the voice of the Holy Spirit from other voices such as our own.
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." —Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
Bible Reading and Studying
Reading and studying the Bible help us get to know God. Through the different Bible stories, we learn about His character, what we can expect from Him, and what He expects from us as His children. In Joshua 1:8, the people of Israel are urged to read God's Word consistently, to keep it in mind at all times, and to memorize it.
Similarly, when we study the Bible, we learn how to deal with different situations in everyday life, such as:
Forgiving our brothers and sisters, as Joseph did after his brothers sold him into slavery (Genesis 37-50)
Managing a situation where a brother or sister in Christ has hurt us, as Jesus teaches us in Matthew 18:15-17

Final Words
By praying, reading, and studying the Bible, we remain consistent in our faith. These habits help us stay focused on God despite the distractions and temptations we face daily.
Take a Leap of Faith
