Have you had a moment in your life where you said to God: “God, I cannot do this by myself?" I believe that
we all have had those moments.

I said those words to God two months before I started college. I realized that I was about to step into life as an adult. I felt scared and insecure. On top of that, the stories I had heard about college did not help me at all. Stories about unfair professors and sleepless nights due to the number of assignments I would need to complete made me think I was heading to the most frightening and intimidating place in the world. In order to succeed in college and overcome fear and insecurity, I decided to do just one thing: strength my mind with God’s Word.
At 18, I was living with my beloved mother.
My bedroom had a turquoise painted wall. One day, as I was looking at the wall, an idea crossed my mind: “What if I covered that wall with pieces of paper containing Bible verses?” And so I did! Verses like Psalm 56:3-4, Psalm 139:14, and Philippians 4:13 were part of my strategy to strengthen my mind before I started college. In addition, I added encouraging quotes from books I had read and came up with one or two inspirational quotes as well.
It took me two days to cover up my wall. I had approximately between 40 to 50 pieces of papers on my wall. After finishing my small project, my main goal was to read each piece of paper —out loud or in my mind—every day until my first day of college. I read them during the day or night. The confidence I gained from just reading the papers on my wall was remarkable.
I do not remember the exact date of my first day in college, but I do remember walking to each classroom with confidence and joy. I cannot deny that sometimes I felt afraid or insecure. However, every day I did my best to recall some of the Bible verses on my wall and every negative thought and feeling went away.
Final Words
Friend, our faith is practical and prepares us to go through challenging moments. It equips us to not give up. As followers of Christ, we will be able to face trials and tough seasons by remembering God’s words of care, encouragement, and comfort that can be found in the Bible.
Take a Leap of Faith
Fill your mind with God's Word! Identify five Bible verses that will hold you up in times of need in your life. Then write them down and place them where you can see them day and night.
P.S.: As a way to support each other in moments of need, we invite you to share one of your Bible verses with our community in the comment section. Thank you ❤️
