Bible Verses to Overcome Fear and Live in Peace

One thing that fascinates me about the Bible is that it tells the stories of people who faced difficult situations—just like you and me. It doesn’t just record the difficulties, but also how they managed to overcome them.

As we read these stories, we realize that God was the key to overcoming every challenge.

One example is King David, who felt fear on many occasions. To move from fear to peace of mind, King David did two things: 1) he recognized what was causing his fear, and 2) he faced it by remembering what his Lord, Creator, and God had done for his family, his nation, and for him.

King David’s strategy was to remember that God was stronger than any fears he might experience.

God is more powerful than any fear that attempts to keep us from living with confidence and courage. Are you afraid of failure? Of change? Of rejection? Of loneliness? Of success? Of death?

Today, I’d like to share some Bible verses that will help you overcome your fears so that you can live with confidence, determination, and peace of mind.

💬 Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

💬 Psalm 27:1-3 - “¹  The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? ² When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. ³ Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.”

💬 Psalm 118:6 - “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

💬 Psalm 56:3-4 - “³ When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. ⁴  In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Take a Leap of Faith

Take a sheet of paper and divide it into two columns by drawing a line down the middle.

In the first column, write down, one by one, the fears you have today. Get them out of your head and put them on paper.

In the second column, next to each fear, write a biblical truth or one of God’s promises. You can use the phrase, “The Lord is with me, and I’m not afraid,” or look up a specific verse that addresses that situation. For example, Psalm 23, Isaiah 41:10, and 2 Timothy 1:7 express complete trust in God’s love and faithfulness when we’re afraid.

When you're finished, say a brief prayer thanking God for the courage, encouragement, and assurance He offers through His Word.
