What Is Crucifixion?
Crucifixion was a method of capital punishment used in the Ancient world. Generally, those who received this punishment were accused of committing treason, insurrection, or threats to the government.
Essential to the Word
Jesus’ crucifixion is grounded in history. Pontius Pilate, a Roman governor of Judea, authorized his crucifixion at the demand of the Jewish religious authorities. In the Bible, particularly in the Gospels, Jesus’ crucifixion is the fulfillment of God’s rescue plan for all humanity.
