Discover Three Benefits of Christian Spirituality

Living a life as Jesus suggests could represent a challenge in an antagonistic world like ours. We can see people ignoring the spiritual side of life because it requires change or it requires to believe in someone they cannot see with the naked eye. However, developing our unquestionable spiritual side brings a lot of benefits. In this post, I will share three benefits we receive from cultivating our spirituality in the Christian faith.

  1. You Get Closer to God

The first benefit we obtain from developing our Christian spirituality is the direct connection we can have with our Creator. In the course of human history, the search of the divine has been a recurrent topic. The reasons that lead us to look for and accept God’s existence vary from person to person. There are people who get close to God after going through a near-death experience. Some people find their purpose in life in Him. Other people begin their journey to God when questioning things like the origin of human life and the world or why wickedness exists.

The causes and reasons that propel us to God are infinite. The truth is that where human knowledge is limited, immediately, we start considering God’s veracity. And once we draw near to Him, we enjoy the benefit of His love, peace, providence, help, comfort, joy, certainty, assurance, healing, meaning, purpose, and much more.

  1. Your Mind Is Renewed

The second benefit of nourishing our spirituality is the blessing of renewing our mind. In Christianity, “a renewed mind”, means a mind that changes its way of thinking, understanding, and acting. This is possible through the knowledge and wisdom we receive from God, which is contained in the Bible.

An example in the Bible of the transformation of the mind can be found in Exodus 20:1-17. In this chapter, God tells the people of Israel ten instructions on how to live life and how to interact with God and other people in a good way. For instance, God mentioned the faithfulness of His people to Him (Ex. 20:2-7), the importance of rest (Ex. 20:8-11), how to treat our parents (Ex. 20:12), and some actions to avoid that are rooted in greed, anger, envy, and selfishness (Ex. 20:13-17).

Having a renewed mind takes time. It is a daily choice. The good thing is God has provided us with information and strategies to achieve a new mindset. Let us keep reading the Scriptures to help us think, understand, and act in new and better ways.

  1. You Are Aware of the Struggles of Others

The third benefit from enhancing our spiritual life is the opportunity of helping others. As we discover God's proposal for life in Scripture, we notice a collective aspect. God invites us to help, pray, forgive, love, and be merciful to others.

In the Christian spirituality, the “I” becomes “We.” We do not ignore when others suffer. We do not ignore those in need. We walk in prayer with those who are grieving or who have received an unfortunate health diagnosis. We are hospitable. We simply seek to help our neighbour in difficult times.

Final Words

Nurturing our Christian spirituality is beneficial. It gives us the opportunity to know and understand our Creator and all the wonderful things He has done, is doing, and will do for those who love and serve Him. We also have the opportunity to change the way we think and act in order to live a meaningful life and build healthy relationships. And lastly, we have the chance of supporting our neighbor on their journey through life.
