Hebrews 11 describes beautifully what it means to live by faith.
The word “faith” means to be faithful or loyal.
Being faithful refers to keeping commitments, promises, or beliefs.
The "Christian faith" is committed to Jesus Christ. We, as Christians, are faithful to Jesus’ teachings. We are faithful to love and seek God first before everything else in our lives. We are faithful to love our neighbors.
Moreover, we remain faithful to Him in times of difficulty. In those moments, we experience Him closely. We experience His tender love, care, and support.
10 Reasons to Live by Faith
Recently, I shared on our blog’s Instagram account (@_faithdrivenjourney) a weekly challenge that encouraged people to read Hebrews 11. I decided to join the challenge!
While reading the suggested chapter, I was amazed by how believers that came before us lived by faith. They decided to remain faithful to God no matter what. They believed and remained faithful to God in both good times and bad. They lived believing that God's promises would be fulfilled, whether they were alive or not. They never ceased to confess and proclaim their hope in Jesus, even though they were mistreated and some were killed. That’s the kind of faith I want to have!
After reading the chapter, I was inspired to write down at least ten reasons to continue living by faith. And today, I want to share them with you!
Below, you’ll find a list of ten reasons that lead us to live by faith. Following each reason, you’ll find the verse that helped me understand that truth. My hope is that after reading this, you’ll feel inspired to be even more faithful to God.
Because faith moves us to walk in hope.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews. 11:1)
Because God is the Creator of the universe and life.
“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” (Hebrews 11:3)
Because God is a righteous God.
“By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.” (Hebrews 11:4)
Because faith allows us to believe and relate to God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Because faith enables us to obey God, which guarantees our well-being.
“8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. (Hebrews 11:8-10)
Because God keeps His promises.
“And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.” (Hebrews 11:11)
Because God transforms us from the inside out.
“24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.” (Hebrews 11:24-25)
Because with God we’ll always prevail.
(Referring to Moses) “26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:26-27)
Because God works miracles.
“By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.” (Hebrews 11:29)
Because many people testify that living for God is worthwhile.
Who would endure persecution, torture, struggles, imprisonment, and even death if they did not truly believe that God is the reason for living?
Pause for a moment. Find your Bible and read Hebrews 11:32-40. Learn what it meant for believers before us to live by faith. Once you have finished reading the Bible verses, come back and finish this post. 😉
Final Words
Every time I read Hebrews 11, my commitment to God grows stronger. 🥰
Having faith in God gives us an assurance of well-being. And in times of great difficulty, it assures us that we’ll receive guidance, comfort, and strength from Him.
